RAISE YOUR HAND. SAY YES.

erin_podcast GUYS. This week was my birthday AND I'm on a podcast! Talk about a great way to start the year. Especially because it's a podcast with one of my very favorite people in the entire world, Tiffany Han.

I was SO honored and butterflies-in-my-stomach excited when Tiffany asked me to be on Raise Your Hand, Say Yes. I've listened to every episode and get so much inspiration from each woman's story. Seriously, guys, don't listen before bed. The inspiration will keep you awake. I'm speaking from experience.

I hope I contributed some inspiration to the pot! Or at least some food for thought on leaving a "real" job to start a business and what a wild, amazing adventure that can be.

Take a listen here.

Thank you, Tiffany!! You are my business soulmate; the Flo Rida to my dance party.

And P.S. I'm SO THRILLED to be a part of the the Raise your Hand, Say Yes book club! We’re starting with The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. Get your copy and give it a read, k? The episode will air on March 4th. Woot!

MY WORD FOR 2015

AS-open

I've never picked a word to represent my year before. I always love hearing about other people's words for the year, but for some reason I've never tried it. I'm more of a resolutions and goal-setting gal, I suppose.

This year, I thought I'd give it a try. After coming across and completing Susannah Conway's brilliant Find Your Word email course, one word was definitely coming to mind: open.

A few days after completing Susannah's course, I came across something that made me realize just how important my new word could be for me. I read a book that explained worrying in a way I'd never thought of before. It said that when we worry about something, we're basically saying NO to any success or happiness that's trying to emerge in that moment.

WHAT. I know, right?? Of course I want more success and happiness. We all do! Reading that made me realize that worrying isn't about caring too much or analyzing a situation, like I thought. Instead worrying is just fear in disguise. And whenever I worry, I'm closing myself off from good things. No more, bro. Knowing that makes me want to stop immediately.

So by declaring open as my word for 2015, I'm promising myself I will do my best to release the worry, fear, doubt, social media comparing ;) Because I want to be open to all of the good that surrounds me and the good that's trying to emerge, in all its forms: love, success, creativity, inspiration, health, happiness, a free chai... whatevs.

I'm sure I'll have some slip ups, going cold turkey on worrying won't be easy. But that's okay. I'll start over. As many times as I have to.

I can't wait to see how this year unfolds with open at the forefront of my thoughts and decisions...! Did you pick a word for 2015? I'd love to hear what it is!

LIFE LATELY

life lately 01 Mornings have become my faaaavorite. Which is funny because I'm definitely not a morning person. (Confession: I get up at 8:30. Hey, this gal needs her zzzs.) Anyhoo, my routine is iced chai and blogs + email in bed... usually while wearing cat pajamas. And I love it. What's your morning routine?

02 Pets have a way of keeping everything in perspective, don't you think? Throughout the day Meowmers reminds me that nothing is worth stressing over... and there's ALWAYS time for snuggle breaks and bird watching (his favorite pastime, close 2nd to napping).

03 THESE. And this: "We're all golden sunflowers inside." - Allen Ginsberg

04 Denver friends, have you been to Aiko Pops yet?? If not, GO. NOW. I wanted to try one of everything, but settled on grapefruit rosemary. So yum. When will they invent popsicle flights??

OH HEY

oh hey One of the best feelings in all the land is marking something off your to-do list that's been there for waaay too long. For months I've been wanting to update my twitter + instagram handle to something simpler... that matches... and that doesn't include an underscore (ew!).

The most obvious solutions - my name or artsocial - were already taken, so I had to get creative. The other day I FINALLY DECIDED what to change it to. It came to me during meditation - high five, quiet time!

You can now reach me at @heyartsocial on twitter and instagram. Wahoo! The simplicity makes me oh so happy. Funny how little things like that can make you feel so much more legit, eh?

What's something that's been on your to-do list for way too long? Let's tackle that beast! Next on my list? Changing my url to match (what up, heyartsocial.com!).

#BEINTENTIONAL

Roksanda-Ilincic If you haven't already heard me say this, here it is: Sandra of Raincoast Creative Salon has the best newsletter ever. I'm intrigued and inspired by it every time, how does she do it?! It's called the Creativity Newsletter and you need it in your life.

Anyhoo, in April's newsletter Sandra wrote about Social Media Hangovers and how it's all just tooooo much sometimes. It's impossible to take everything in. AMEN SISTA!

Can you relate? I know I can. Over the past few months I've noticed myself pulling back from social media. A part of me even feels bad for doing so! I mean, as a blogger and designer shouldn't I love sharing and commenting and soaking in all the inspirational goodness out there?! All day every day?!

Well yes. But no. In moderation.

In my business, I've definitely seen the benefits of social media and I'm tremendously grateful. But as with everything in life - you have to figure out what works best for you and your creative mojo. And sometimes it's not good for my creativity and I need to take a media-cation.

So I'm joining Sandra and vowing to use social media with purpose; to think of it as a tool NOT a requirement; and - most importantly - I vow to release this pressure to post that has been bugging me lately.

Do you ever feel that way? Overwhelmed by social media, yet pressured to do so for your business? Social media is such a bully ;)

IN LOVE: SPRING FORWARD

spring-forward-wishlist The weather has been gorgeous lately. It has me dreaming of warmer temps! While we surely have a few more snow storms in our future, it's never too early to start putting together a warm weather wishlist...

How cute are those citrus flats! Pair them with a neon scalloped skirt (for maximum cuteness) and a matte black ban.do heart (for a little edge) and I'd say you're ready for spring, homegirl.

VALENTINE'S DAY. GET EXCITED.

ur-hot

Who's super stoked for Valentine's Day tomorrow?! Okay, I know a lot of people hate the holiday, but I think they might just be looking at it from the wrong perspective...

Here are 5 reasons to be grateful for all the lurve tomorrow, whether you're in a relationship or ridin' solo dolo.

01 TREATS. This time of year requires anything and everything pink & sugary... or chocolatey. I recommend these mini doughnuts.

02 DIYS. Like we need an excuse to get creative, amIright?? While I exercise my creative muscles on the reg, holidays definitely motivate me to do more and try new things. Pinterest is blowin' up with Valentine's projects. Psst these diy heart pillows will look good alllllll year round. Bonus.

03 TREAT YO'SELF. You have to do something nice for yourself on Valentine's Day. Whether you're getting dolled up for a date, having a galentine's par-tay, or watching netflix in the tub, treat yourself tomorrow, k? I'll definitely be trying this XO manicure.

04 FREE STUFF. Always a good thing. Lots of places offer free stuff / deals on Valentine's Day. I found free donuts, waffles, and pie! just from one quick google. Go forth and google, my friends. Here's one site to getcha goin'.

05 FREEDOM. Do whatcha want. Celebrate, don't celebrate. Watch a rom-com, watch a scary movie (I recommend You're Next. Ohmygah, watch it). As adults, we get to decide how we want to celebrate (or not celebrate) on the 14th. Use it as an excuse to do what you reeeeaaally want.

P.S. AND as adults, we no longer have to hand out valentines to our classmates. How awful was that??! Thank god that's over.

P.P.S. Be sure to check back in tomorrow! In honor of Valentine's Day, my favorite-est photographer is hosting a very special / cramazing giveaway. I'll be super jelly of whoever wins this one.

IN LOVE: VALENTINE'S DAY

valentine's wishlist I luuurve this print Sweethearts by Jonathan Lewis. It's from Jonathan's series See Candy, where he takes inspiration from the colors and tones of the candy section of the supermarket. I never realized just how many colors can appear on candy packaging! Kind of amazing, right?

Wouldn't those colors make the cutest Valentine's Day outfit?? My research points to YES.

WALLPAPER LOVE

wallpaper love It's almost February!! In my opinion, the BEST month because my birthday and Valentine's Day are within a few days of each other. That means there's an entire glorious week of gifts and love and heart-shaped treats and (usually) confetti and (sometimes) mini vacations.

I snapped this photo the other day and thought it would make a perfect February wallpaper to get me in the Valentine's Day / birthday mood. Time to celebrate... and dream big!
