ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

kuzana ogg Happy Wednesday, friends. You know what would make this Wednesday even happier? A pinterest contest by the name of Art Association? Yessss. Let's do it.

Here's how it works:

Artsy Forager and I have cooked up one awesome project that involves art, Pinterest, and YOU... Art Association (think word association) involves creating a Pinterest board around one work of art and all of the things you think of while looking at it. Anything and everything that comes to mind will be pinned… no holding back now.

We're doing things a bit differently this time. The winner will be randomly selected. That's right. Artsy Forager and I are staying out of it this time. You pin whatever your heart desires and you'll be entered to win a rad prize and some definite bragging rights. Let’s get started, eh?

This month's inspiration is Lily by Kuzana Ogg...

lily by kuzana ogg

The fun color palette of Lily made me think of swimming pools, flowers, and pink summery hues... it's finally warming up here in Denver, my mind is clearly occupied with all things summer!

art association contest

Oh I can't wait to see your pins! But before we get to pinning, let's take a look at your prize. Woot!

art association contest

The winner will receive this 5x5" etching, Pom. Two quick + awesome facts about this print: 01. the title means "Spring" in Korean. Kuzana actually lived in Korea in the mid '90s where she taught English. So cool. 02. The print was made at the New Grounds Print Workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Kuzana was awarded their Rachel Allen Scholarship. SO cool.

Okay, let's pin.

ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Jessica Brilli I know. Project Brown Bag this morning and now Art Association? I'm gettin' cray up in here. Let's keep the good times rolling, shall we?

This month Artsy Forager and I teamed up with the incredible artist Jessica Brilli. When I saw her portfolio, I knew I wanted to work with her on an Art Association contest... I mean, how many fun images and ideas come to mind when you see old school telephones, cameras, and typewriters? These objects have so much history, I have a feeling this round of Art Association is gonna be our best yet...!

Before we get to the rules + your awesome prize, here's what I saw when I looked at Jessica's painting of a Brownie Camera. Clearly I thought of real brownies... with salted caramel creme filling. I also thought of other old school objects, that rich yellow color, and fun photos + snapshots. Oh you guys are gonna have fun with this one.

ART ASSOCIATION / 06

Wedding Day by Karen Schnepf One look at Karen Schnepf's collage paintings and I was in LOVE. The layers of bold colors paired with black & white stripes? Oh my gah, beautiful. Artsy Forager and I knew immediately she'd be the perfect candidate for our Art Association contest.

I had a blast pinning anything and everything I came across that reminded me of Karen's amazing painting, Wedding Day...

It's so nice to focus on bold + colorful images, Colorado is still in its drab winter phase... hurry up, spring and summer! What do you see when you look at Karen's work? Pin your associations on pinterest and you, my friend, could win one of Karen's collage paintings. Whaaat.

Create a pinboard based on Karen Schnepf's Wedding Day for a chance to win this 12x12 collage painting, Colors Layered.

P.S. Karen's process? Rad. Paper is painted, layered, and then attached to a panel. Resin is then poured over the collage for a smooth, high gloss finish.

I love abstract works with cute titles, totally kick-starts my imagination. I start to create a story out of the random shapes and colors. Cocktail Party? Oh yep, those lines and colors are totally balloons... champagne... confetti... boldly dressed ladies... and a blur of flowers.

ART ASSOCIATION // 3

That's right. We're startin' this week off the awesome way... with a pinterest contest. This is Artsy Forager and artsocial's 3rd installment of the Art Association contest and it's getting serious, everyone. By serious I mean the prizes are getting so rad I wish I could enter my own contest... more about that in a sec. J E N N I F E R  C H E N O W E T H :  S P H E R E  O F  I N F L U E N C E

This month our Art Association subject/star/muse is Sphere of Influence by Jennifer Chenoweth. Instead of going the cathedral architecture route, I was drawn to the work's rich colors and tactile, painterly drips... which made me think of melty ice cream. Obvi. That's where my mind goes... sigh. Et tu?

T H E  P I N S

So. Up for grabs this time? Any small size, unframed print of your choice from Artmuse, including shipping! Whaaaaa? My thoughts exactly. You can take your pick of anything on Artmuse... like this work... ohh or this.

- Follow artsocial and Artsy Forager on Pinterest (if you already follow us, awesome bro).

- Create a Pinterest board titled Art Association.

- Pin Sphere of Influence by Jennifer Chenoweth along with anything and everything that you think of when looking at Jennifer’s work. Just like word association, Art Association involves pinning anything that comes to mind when looking at a given work of art. There are no right or wrong answers.

- Leave the link to your pinboard in the comments section of this post (scroll allllll the way down to the bottom).

Done and done. The pinner with the best art associations (as judged by me and Artsy Forager) will be chosen next Monday, November 19th at 5pm (mountain standard time). Pin on, pinna.

Check out more from Jennifer Chenoweth on Artmuse. Pinned image sources found here.

Big shout out & thank you to Artmuse! Collect Art You Love.

ART ASSOCIATION + CONTEST

You guys ready for another Art Association contest?? I imagined that you all just yelled back hell yes! Even if you didn't yell, I hope you're ready to pin some more associations with me and Artsy Forager!! Here's how it works: Art Association (think word association) involves creating a Pinterest board around one work of art and all of the things you think of while looking at it. Anything and everything that comes to mind will be pinned. This month we're looking at Kate Farrall's mailing abq 10-2 lines...

K A T E  F A R R A L L :  M A I L I N G  A B Q  1 0 - 2  L I N E S

The prints from Kate’s Mailings to Myself series are made by sending unexposed photo paper through the mail, allowing it to expose during its trip, and then developing it when it arrives. How's that for an uh-mazing artistic process, huh?

Kate explains:

Chance plays a huge role as do the unknown postal participants. It is where photograms meet the postal system—where one process meets another. It is recording and revealing the tiny, mysterious worlds of the everyday and the ordinary. It is an appreciation for experimentation and finding new possibilities within the quotidian.

I love dropping a bulky, tape-laden package into the mail box —its temporary darkroom.

Umm radballs. That's my professional assessment. This print made me think of light streaks, motion, oranges + blues, and the Albuquerque landscape - could be the fact that I was just in Albuquerque... and the "abq" in the title.
