Blogshop Was Glorious

I think the life of my blogging is now divided into B.B. and A.B. - Before Blogshop and After Blogshop.

I think the most important lessons I took away from this two-day Photoshop learning-athon were not actually Photoshop related at all. Sure, I learned a ton of new practical skills that you will see all ova this here blog. But I think one of the most important lessons I learned was about creativity.

One of the first pages in the blogshop "textbook" includes a quote from Ira Glass. It's so spot on for anyone who's starting a blog - or any creative endeavor really - I had to share it here. It's long, but oh so worth it:

"nobody tells this to people who are beginners. i wish someone had told me. all of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. but there is this gap. for the first couple years you make stuff, it's just not that good. it's trying to be good, it has potential, but it's not. but your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. and your taste is why your work disappoints you. a lot of people never get past this phase; they quit. most people i know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. we know our work doesn't have this special thing that we want it to have. we all go through this. and if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know that it's normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. put yourself on a deadline so that every week you finish one piece. it's only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. and i took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone i've ever met. it's gonna take awhile. it's normal to take awhile. you just gotta fight your way through." - Ira Glass

I'll admit, I'm still finding my blogging voice... but I won't give up, I'll keep going until my work is as good as my ambitions.

Oh and I learned how to do this! (the animated gif, not the dance)

Hello from Seattle

Hey there, friends. You know I couldn't stay away from the blog for a whole week! I just had to pop in to say hello and share some Instagram action from Seattle town.

So turns out Seattle is full of deliciousness and sunshine... or at least that's how it's been for the last few days. And ohmygod, guys, Blogshop was amazeballs. I'll be sure to write a full report this weekend when I get back to the frozen tundra that is Colorado.

1 Day Until Blogshop

The time has come, friends! I'm off to Seattle. I can't wait to tell you all about the two day party/learn-fest that is Blogshop. And after Blogshop, I'll have a whole week of relaxin' with the boyfriend in Seattle-town. MUCH NEEDED. See you when I get back, dear readers! Oh who am I kidding, I'll be blogging from Seattle.

And I'll probably be posting pics like this to Instagram... and other cramazing things.

6 Days Until Blogshop

Blogshop is happening within the week, guys. My excitement is almost too much to handle. I can't wait to get out there and learn me some Photoshop from Bri & Angela!!

Did I mention this will be my first visit to Seattle too?? Double hooray! Kate sent me this amazing Seattle guide from Design*Sponge. Seriously I'm printing this and bringing it with me. It's like my very own, way cooler version of a Rick Steves travel book...
