Ever since fall officially hit, I've developed a bit of an apple cider crush... ok, maybe full-on obsession. There's a gallon-size jug in my fridge right now... I mean, no one person needs a gallon of anything. It's just so nice to come home, put on some cider, and settle in for the evening. Needless to say, with a whole gallon at my disposal I've gotten pretty creative with my cider... enter: Wassail Punch. This recipe from The Kitchn is a must-try this holiday season - omigah am I really using that phrase already??
Wassail Punch Serves 6
6 cups apple cider 1 cup orange juice 4 cinnamon sticks, plus additional for garnish 6-8 whole star anise, plus additional for garnish 1 tablespoon sugar Pinch of allspice Juice of one lemon Bourbon or whiskey (optional, of course)
Bring all of the ingredients to a low boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for a few hours. Serve hot; spike with bourbon or whiskey. Garnish with whole cinnamon sticks and star anise, if you're feelin' fancy.
