PROJECT BROWN BAG: SPRING

project brown bag Spring was last month's theme for the monthly art collaboration Project Brown Bag, and holywow did this crew do a fabulous job!

Layers of bright colors, sunshine, flowers bursting from the canvas - spring has been captured y'all. And the quote! Oh guys. The quote is so beautiful I can't stand it.

LIVE TO THE POINT OF TEARS - CAMUS

project brown bag

Isn't that the perfect quote for spring? When life is everywhere and the world is an abundance of flowers and opportunities! Okay, maybe that's just my interpretation... but spring makes it so easy to live and experience fully, don't you think?

project brown bag

Great, great job ladies. You nailed it. High five to April's contributors: Sara, Alyssa, and Alyssa!

What do you think? Did they capture spring?

ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

kuzana ogg Happy Wednesday, friends. You know what would make this Wednesday even happier? A pinterest contest by the name of Art Association? Yessss. Let's do it.

Here's how it works:

Artsy Forager and I have cooked up one awesome project that involves art, Pinterest, and YOU... Art Association (think word association) involves creating a Pinterest board around one work of art and all of the things you think of while looking at it. Anything and everything that comes to mind will be pinned… no holding back now.

We're doing things a bit differently this time. The winner will be randomly selected. That's right. Artsy Forager and I are staying out of it this time. You pin whatever your heart desires and you'll be entered to win a rad prize and some definite bragging rights. Let’s get started, eh?

This month's inspiration is Lily by Kuzana Ogg...

lily by kuzana ogg

The fun color palette of Lily made me think of swimming pools, flowers, and pink summery hues... it's finally warming up here in Denver, my mind is clearly occupied with all things summer!

art association contest

Oh I can't wait to see your pins! But before we get to pinning, let's take a look at your prize. Woot!

art association contest

The winner will receive this 5x5" etching, Pom. Two quick + awesome facts about this print: 01. the title means "Spring" in Korean. Kuzana actually lived in Korea in the mid '90s where she taught English. So cool. 02. The print was made at the New Grounds Print Workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Kuzana was awarded their Rachel Allen Scholarship. SO cool.

Okay, let's pin.

how to enter

01 Follow artsocial and Artsy Forager on Pinterest (if you already follow us, you’re in bro).

02 Create a Pinterest board titled Art Association.

03 Pin Kuzana Ogg's Lily along with anything and everything you think of when looking at Kuzana's work. 8-10 pins will do, but feel free to pin as much as you'd like! Get it, girrl.

04 Leave the link to your pinboard in the comments section of this post.

The pinner will be chosen at random (using random.org) on Wednesday, May 22nd at 5pm MST. Sorry, international friends, this contest is open to U.S. residents only...

Happy pinning!

ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Jessica Brilli I know. Project Brown Bag this morning and now Art Association? I'm gettin' cray up in here. Let's keep the good times rolling, shall we?

This month Artsy Forager and I teamed up with the incredible artist Jessica Brilli. When I saw her portfolio, I knew I wanted to work with her on an Art Association contest... I mean, how many fun images and ideas come to mind when you see old school telephones, cameras, and typewriters? These objects have so much history, I have a feeling this round of Art Association is gonna be our best yet...!

Before we get to the rules + your awesome prize, here's what I saw when I looked at Jessica's painting of a Brownie Camera. Clearly I thought of real brownies... with salted caramel creme filling. I also thought of other old school objects, that rich yellow color, and fun photos + snapshots. Oh you guys are gonna have fun with this one.

PROJECT BROWN BAG

spring Spring is definitely my favorite season. Winter is a time to stay cozy inside, reading, resting, reflecting, and baking cookies. Spring though, spring is for doing. It brings a sense of possibility and I-can-do-it-ness. It makes me want to get out there and make shiz happen... and the fact that everything looks and smells amazing? Well that's an added bonus.

My crush on this season and my obsession with florals is why SPRING is this month's theme for Project Brown Bag. Hoorah! Ya ready to join myself and Laid Off Mom for the most awesome collaborative art project around? Yesss. Here’s how it works:

01  The first 3 commenters to leave a “Hell YES” in the comment section will have the privilege of being our art contributors for the month.

02  Contributors will email me their mailing address and a 200 x 200 pixel image of themselves, to be used in a blog post. (Please send to artsocialonline@gmail.com)

03  I will mail an art canvas to the first person to comment, and brown paper bags & mailing labels to each contributor.

04  Based on the theme of the month, the first contributor will add their own interpretation of the theme onto the canvas, using whatever art supplies/medium they wish (within the allotted time limit: 2 days) then that person will insert the piece into the provided brown bag & mail it to the next contributor whose address is provided on the mailing labels. (You get the art piece, you add to it, you send it out)

05  Once the canvas has passed through each contributor, it will be mailed back to me, the host. The host may/may not make their own contribution to the piece, then they will blog about it the following month with an intro about all our artists.

After a full year of art projects, we can look back and enjoy the artwork that has passed through so many different talented hands throughout the country!

* all contributors will be providing the postage

** all contributors must live within the contiguous United States

There is no right or wrong way to decorate or add to the canvas. Create what you want with whatever supplies you have!  I’m a fan of washi tape… that’s not required, but I’m just sayin. As long as the canvas fits into the bag, you are good to go.

READY? SET… COMMENT!!!

Good luck, friends!

ART ASSOCIATION / 06

Wedding Day by Karen Schnepf One look at Karen Schnepf's collage paintings and I was in LOVE. The layers of bold colors paired with black & white stripes? Oh my gah, beautiful. Artsy Forager and I knew immediately she'd be the perfect candidate for our Art Association contest.

I had a blast pinning anything and everything I came across that reminded me of Karen's amazing painting, Wedding Day...

my pins

It's so nice to focus on bold + colorful images, Colorado is still in its drab winter phase... hurry up, spring and summer! What do you see when you look at Karen's work? Pin your associations on pinterest and you, my friend, could win one of Karen's collage paintings. Whaaat.

Create a pinboard based on Karen Schnepf's Wedding Day for a chance to win this 12x12 collage painting, Colors Layered.

P.S. Karen's process? Rad. Paper is painted, layered, and then attached to a panel. Resin is then poured over the collage for a smooth, high gloss finish.

PROJECT BROWN BAG

project brown bag The monthly art project, Project Brown Bag, is getting GOOD, y'all. I got the final piece back from February's PBB contributors and was blown away. February's theme was celebrate. I'm so so impressed with the results. It's like each one of them knew exactly what to add to the canvas to make me fall in love with it. I mean pink poms? Glitter confetti? A CAT WEARING A PARTY HAT? Oh these ladies are good.

HUGE thank you to our contributors!!

contributors

The canvas traveled from Amy to Lizzy to Lisa; Massachusetts to New York to Maryland. Well I think it's safe to say the East coast rocked PBB. What do you think?

I love abstract works with cute titles, totally kick-starts my imagination. I start to create a story out of the random shapes and colors. Cocktail Party? Oh yep, those lines and colors are totally balloons... champagne... confetti... boldly dressed ladies... and a blur of flowers.

ART ASSOCIATION // 3

That's right. We're startin' this week off the awesome way... with a pinterest contest. This is Artsy Forager and artsocial's 3rd installment of the Art Association contest and it's getting serious, everyone. By serious I mean the prizes are getting so rad I wish I could enter my own contest... more about that in a sec. J E N N I F E R  C H E N O W E T H :  S P H E R E  O F  I N F L U E N C E

This month our Art Association subject/star/muse is Sphere of Influence by Jennifer Chenoweth. Instead of going the cathedral architecture route, I was drawn to the work's rich colors and tactile, painterly drips... which made me think of melty ice cream. Obvi. That's where my mind goes... sigh. Et tu?

T H E  P I N S

So. Up for grabs this time? Any small size, unframed print of your choice from Artmuse, including shipping! Whaaaaa? My thoughts exactly. You can take your pick of anything on Artmuse... like this work... ohh or this.

- Follow artsocial and Artsy Forager on Pinterest (if you already follow us, awesome bro).

- Create a Pinterest board titled Art Association.

- Pin Sphere of Influence by Jennifer Chenoweth along with anything and everything that you think of when looking at Jennifer’s work. Just like word association, Art Association involves pinning anything that comes to mind when looking at a given work of art. There are no right or wrong answers.

- Leave the link to your pinboard in the comments section of this post (scroll allllll the way down to the bottom).

Done and done. The pinner with the best art associations (as judged by me and Artsy Forager) will be chosen next Monday, November 19th at 5pm (mountain standard time). Pin on, pinna.
